JESUS—THE FULLNESS OF DEITY IN BODILY FORM

For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell (Colossians 1:19).

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are eternally existent and manifested in Jesus. Each person of the Trinity has a distinct personality. Yet, Jesus is the bodily manifestation of the Godhead; He encompasses the fullness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Colossians 1:19 says, “For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell.” Colossians 2:9 further emphasizes this; it says, “For in him (Jesus Christ) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

This means the fullness of deity, the fullness of the Godhead, resides in Jesus in bodily form. If you want to find the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in one body, it’s in Jesus. Hebrews 1:1-3 lends further credence to this; it says, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person….”

In other words, Jesus is the exact replica or representation of God the Father. Jesus Himself said in John 14:10, “The Father is in me, and I am in the Father.” This reinforces the idea that Jesus is the manifestation of the Father. When you see Jesus, you see the Father; He embodies the character and essence of the Father: “…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father…” (John 14:9).

1 Timothy 3:16 encapsulates it beautifully: “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” Observe that it says “seen of angels.” The angels, who had never seen God the Father’s form, saw Him for the first time when Jesus came. He made the invisible God visible even to the heavenly beings, demonstrating the profound mystery and majesty of the Trinity. Praise God!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the revelation of Jesus, who He is—the bodily manifestation of the Godhead. In Him dwells all the fullness of the divine perfection, powers and attributes of deity, the outward expression of the invisible God. He’s the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and great God, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Colossians 2:9 AMPC
For in Him the whole fullness of Deity (the Godhead) continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature].

Hebrews 1:3 NIV
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

John 14:5-11
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
